“COVID has presented its own challenges, like I can't really separate work and home as much as I did; we are always on . . .’Zoom Exhaustion.’ That time in-between that allowed some space for mental clarity and just decompressing [is gone]. Now we are -- from 7:30 in the morning until sometimes 8:00 at night -- going from one thing to the next... it's replaced the Los Angeles commute,” says Alexandra (Alex) Brown. She understands the pervasive challenges of needing to balance constant communication and connection as a leader with personal health and well-being in her role at the No. 1 U.S. public institution and most applied to college in the world.

As the Senior Director for UCLA Student Alumni Programs & Family Engagement, Alex leads the division at the University of California - Los Angeles that develops relationships and lifelong engagement with UCLA and its Alumni Association. She and her team enhance and support the campus life experiences of UCLA students, parents and families. Because of the tremendous impact of COVID-19 on college campuses worldwide, like many, her work load and work-life balance have changed monumentally. Listen to this episode to learn from an exceptional college administrator how to maintain connection while the ground underneath you keeps shifting.
